Welcome to Tucked in Felt! Like any child bundled up in too many layers to survive the Prairie winters learns when they try to bend their arms, the fabric is strong… so strong in the right conditions it can even be structural. This is the premise of our pavilion, celebrating the properties of 100% natural wool, we propose a structure that embraces the interaction between traditional sewing techniques, water, and felt at cold temperatures. Wool absorbs 30% of its weight in water so that when it freezes it holds its shape. This structural wool forms the outside of the pavilion sheltering benches also made from felt. Openings are placed strategically to take advantage of the south-facing sun to provide a cozy reprieve from the elements. When the summer sun rises again, this pavilion will melt, returning to its base properties as flexible, multifunctional, fabric.
