Community Hall

2023

Keywords: community, gathering, climate change, landscape, environmental systems and controls

The prompt was to design a “systemless building” with no mechanical ventilation that can provide shelter, and emergency services, respond to the changing predicted climate conditions, and acted as a community hall and center for the surrounding area. Additional programming includes a reuse-it center, workshop space, washrooms, mechanical room, storage, performance stage, kitchen, and cafe.

The proposed response for this project is a tree house-inspired design built on the bed rock existing on site that is at the 9m mark of the topography. The building exists on a series of trusses and stilts.
